A Tip For Allen County Recorder's Office Users

Use Extra Care When Searching:
2001 and 2010 May Look A Lot Alike At First Glance
 

If you do any searching in the Allen County Recorder's Office, remember that our 2001 and 2010 document numbers may look a LOT alike at first glance.

Before 2007, we used a system that only allowed for 9-digit document numbers. To make room for the largest possible number of document numbers, the old system formatted 2001 numbers so that they began with 2010. For example, the 10,000th number that year would have appeared as 201010000.

This year's numbers ALSO start with 2010, but with the switch to the Fidlar system that occurred in 2007, we now use a 10-digit system that keeps the years in their proper format. For example, the 10,000th document THIS year will be document number 2010010000.

We are examining some ideas for reformatting 2001 document numbers to resolve this problem.

But for the time being make sure you're keeping an eye on document numbers when you're searching to make sure that 2001 isn't 2010 and vice-versa.
